What is a timeline in DocuSketch?
A timeline is a visual record of how a job progresses over time. It can span hours, days, or weeks, and it gives anyone reviewing the project a clear picture of what changed and when.
When to Capture a Timeline in DocuSketch
Not every visit requires a new capture. The rule of thumb is simple: any time there's a significant scope change, that's your trigger. Here's what that looks like on a typical water loss:
- Initial tour. Captured when you first arrive on site. Document any pre-existing damage and note conditions like no power or plumbing issues.
- After emergency services. Once extraction, demo, or other mitigation work is complete, capture the space to memorialize what was done.
- Equipment changes. If you come back the next day and have moved or adjusted drying equipment, capture that change.
- Contents or board-up. Any time contents are moved or a board-up happens, that warrants a new timeline capture.
Why Capturing Timelines Matter
Timelines are one of the most valuable ways to use DocuSketch. They create an undeniable visual story of the job, showing exactly what the space looked like at each stage. That record protects you, supports your documentation, and gives adjusters and clients the clarity they need to move forward.
